Shalom Retreat Center is owned and directed by the Sisters of St. Francis and staffed by laypersons and Franciscan Sisters. Situated adjacent to an 81-acre prairie, Shalom offers ample space to walk, pray, and reflect with its numerous paved and well-groomed walking paths, meditation garden and abundant wildlife.

A variety of programs and retreats are offered throughout the year, ranging from weeklong and weekend retreats to days of reflection to workshops on various spiritual and educational topics. Shalom serves people of all faiths and offers programs reflecting a variety of spiritualities that address the needs of individuals, married couples, and families in all age groups and economic situations.

In addition to the group programs, Shalom offers private or directed retreats. They may choose spiritual direction as part of their retreat, or they may prefer to spend their time in solitude. We also have a Hermitage, which consists of a bedroom, kitchenette, and a bath in a separate brick building northeast of the main Shalom complex for a greater degree of privacy.

Our library features a wide variety of spiritual books, newspapers, and audio-visual resources. There is also a Gift Shop filled with current spiritual books, crucifixes, jewelry, prayer books, greeting cards, Trappistine caramels, and more, to help individuals nourish their own lives and purchase gifts for others.

Our handicap-accessible facility is also available for use by hosted groups…religious, business, civic, quilting, etc. Arrangements can be made for overnight accommodations, meeting rooms, meals, AV equipment, and free Wi-Fi high-speed internet access. Click here for a tour of our facility and for information on reserving our facility.

Shalom, a Hebrew word, is understood as: peace, wholeness, integrity and well-being. We hope you will choose to come to our Center and experience these blessings. Click here for testimonials from past participants.
